LONG JAM BRNO
12th – 14th April 2024
A weekend-long immersion in the practice of Contact Improvisation
A long jam is an opportunity to delve into the very essence of contact improvisation – jamming sustained by curiosity and attentiveness to the riches of moment-to-moment experience.
A space dedicated to exploration, nourished by care and collective commitment to staying present – to one self and one another as we journey through different landscapes of movement in contact.
Accompanied by live music, led by our sensing bodies, moved by moment, let’s share and dare to leap beyond the bounds of the known.
Music by: Pavla Kopřivová a Monika Bucharová
Pavla and Monika are music performers. They both work with voice and looper. Pavla likes to create soundscapes of intertwining harmonies. Monika, besides melodic loops, sometimes also weaves in words and tones of cello. Electronic piano, clarinet, overtone flute, ocarina and more can be also heard within the range of sounds.
Playfulness, minimalism, communication with what is happening on the dance floor. Waves of sound, waves of silence.
Organisers:
Lada Koprivova, somatic movement therapist and group facilitator
Pavla Koprivova, music performer, dancer, voice worker
Monika Bucharová, musican and music therapist
Structure:
We will be jamming in 2.5 hour long blocks.
The intention of the jam is to co-create a space, which is held by shared interest and mindful attention to what is taking place inside the room and inside ourselves as we jam together. Whether dancing in contact or solo, resting or witnessing the space, in stillness or motion, we would like to invite all participants to use the opportunity to be active co-creators of the space.
Saturday afternoon (14.30 – 17.00) will be dedicated to a silent jam. No music nor speaking during this jam. We dance to the inner music and rhythms of our moving bodies.
Attending only part of the Long Jam:
In line with the intention of this long jam, we would like to encourage everyone to attend the entire weekend jam.
If you are unable to commit to the whole event, you are welcome to take part in individual blocks. To support the community spirit and a sense of continuation within the group, we ask that you attend at least two blocks.
Please aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of each block, so we can start the jam together. For the safety reasons, the door to the main building has to be locked, and we cannot guarantee we would be able to let you in after the start of the jam.
